2. Profile of the University:
Hanoi University of Culture (HUC) was
established on 26/3/1959, in 134/VH-QD Decision of the Ministry of Culture (now
Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism). In the process of developing, the
university has spent periods as follows:
* Period 1: From 1959 to 1960
HUC was named “School of Culture
Officials”. Mission of the school was improving knowledge, politics and
specialist skill to culture cadres.
* Period 2: From August 1960 to 1977
The school was renamed to “Junior
college of cultural theories" by 127/VHQD Decision of the Ministry of
Culture.
* Period 3: From 5th September, 1977
to 1982
The college was upgraded to “College
of cultural specialist” in 246/CP Decision of Prime Minister, with function of training
cultural specialists.
* Period 4: From 4th September 1982 to present
Again, the college was upgraded to
Hanoi University of Culture by 228/TC-QD Decision of Prime Minister. The
university’s functions are training staffs working in cultural fields and
culture organisations such as library, museum, publisher, cultural tourism and cultural
activities organizing.

6. Some achievements of the university
* As the largest university of the
Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism, 50 years have gone, the university has succeed
in training 10 thousands culture cadres working over the country. Almost culture
staffs working for central and local culture agency were/are students of Hanoi
University of Culture. Of those, many people are leader or manager, keeping
important role in government agencies and Information – Culture institutes. Remarkably,
many culture cadres of Lao and Cambodia have been students at Hanoi University
of Culture.
* The university has co-operated
with many foreign universities and prestigious science organization,
associated, deployed a lot of effective co-operation activities in researching
and training.
* Postgraduate level was formed in
1991 with major in Information – Library science and Culture studies, to meet requirement
of qualification improvement of thousands of culture cadre trained by the
university ago. Until now, in postgraduate level, HUC has trained more than 200
masters for these majors.
* The university has promoted
science researches. Many science conferences on national and entire branch
scale have deployed even in the war period. The university’s research subjects approach
basic argument of traditional culture, and assist to research on modern
culture.
* Student’s
science research has been developed strongly. There are researches of students
awarded “Researching on science by student” prize. The university has awarded
constantly certificate of merit as “Well-achieved in movement of researching on
science by student” for 2 years by the Ministry of Education and Training.
* Because
of these achievements, Hanoi University of Culture has achieved many
Certificates of merit and three Labour medals: 3rd class Labour medals (1984), 2nd class Labour
medals ( 1989), 1st class Labour medals and 3rd class
independent medals (2004).

Development orientation for future
HUC is
continuing to maintain the education cooperating in science research; to expand
scale, to improve quality of training and science research; to make all effort
to become one of large research center in culture and in management studies and
culture specialist in particular.
